WHAT IS IT?
National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project to broadcast world-class theatre to cinemas in the UK and internationally. It launched in June 2009 and has since broadcast more than forty live productions, from both the National Theatre London and other UK theatres.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre. Cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ every time. The picture and sound are beamed via satellite to authorised cinemas, in real time and high definition. Sometimes this is recorded and released for screening as a Blu-ray DVD.
WHEN IS IT COMING TO LEYBURN?
Our first live broadcast "I'm Not Running" was streamed to our cinema on 31st January 2019 and the evening was a great success. That was the final broadcast of the National Theatre Live 2018/19 season. The exciting new 2019/20 season starts on 11th April and we are pleased to announce that we will be screening all of them! Keep an eye on our WHAT'S ON page for up-to-date details, where you can also buy tickets online. With thanks for funding from the Co-op Local Community Fund
